What is the Bocuse d’Or
The competition was born in 1987 when Paul Bocuse invented an incorporated a real show inside the Sirha event - the world food, catering and hotel industry - gathering held every two years in Lyon France.
The idea is to put together 24 young chefs from across the world challenging themselves to prepare a number of dishes in a five-hour and thirty five minute timeframe and being assessed by a panel of top world chefs. Besides the culinary competition the Bocuse d’Or has instantaneously become a media event. Many talented chefs made a way for themselves starting from the competition like the 2011 Bocuse d’Or winner the Danish Rasmus Kofoed the “Geranium” restaurant chef in Copenhagen. 30 years after the award was established and given that all countries are represented, in 2007 the continental pre-selection contests have been created called the Bocuse d’Or Europe – Latin America and Asia which in 2014 turned into the Asia-Pacific with the incorporation of Australia. During the Continental pre-selection 24 countries are selected and consequently will have access to the prestigious world finale: Bocuse d’Or has now become a combination of some sixty between domestic and global contests over a two-year period that regularly culminates in the world finale in Lyon.
